ABA Welcomes New Officers Aboard

At the ABA Annual Convention in October, Walter A. Dods, Jr., chairman of the board and CEO of First Hawaiian Bank, Honolulu, was elected president of the ABA for 1996-97. Dods succeeds James M. Culberson, Jr., who will become chairman of the ABA nominating committee. Culberson is chairman of the board of First National Bank & Trust Co., Asheboro, N.C.

Before his election as president, Dods served on the ABA Board of Directors and the ABA Government Relations Council. He also served as ABA first vice-president in 1994 as well as president-elect in 1995. Dods serves as chairman of the Japan-Hawaii Economic Council and has received numerous awards such as the American Marketing Association's Marketer of the Year, the Governor's Award for Voluntarism for Aloha United Way, and the University of Hawaii's Distinguished Alumni Award.

Other officers elected at the ABA convention include ABA president-elect William T. McConnell, chairman and CEO of Park National Corp., Newark, Ohio; ABA first vice-president R. Scott Jones, chairman and CEO of Goodhue County National Bank in Red Wing, Minn., and ABA treasurer Hjalma E. Johnson, chairman and CEO of East Coast Bank Corp., Dade City, Fla.

McConnell, the president-elect, has chaired the ABA Government Relations Council and has served on ABA's Board. …
