From the New Editors of Literacy Learning: The Middle Years

This issue of Literacy Learning: the Middle Years is the first for the new editorial team who have taken over from the outgoing editor, Dr Kaye Lowe. Before introducing ourselves, we would like to thank Kaye for her contributions over the past two years to the dissemination of information about literacy learning in the middle years of schooling. We are delighted to be taking on a role in a strong journal that caters for a wide audience of teachers, pre-service teachers and academics.

We would also like to send a huge thankyou to those who have contributed to this issue. As the new editors, we hit the ground running and, with little time to prepare, we put our generous contributors under considerable pressure. We are delighted with their responses and this collection of papers which, we believe, offers significant food for thought about the learning and teaching of literacy in today's world and in the future.

We, the new editors, have been involved collectively in literacy teaching for over 60 years. Robyn began her teaching career as a secondary English teacher then co-ordinated a special needs support unit before working as an education adviser in the literacy area of early childhood. Since completing her PhD, she has worked at Queensland University of Technology and is currently at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba. Annette began her teaching career in a large primary school in the sprawling south of Brisbane after completing initial teacher education training in Sydney. Since that time she has taught in small country schools, larger urban schools, held various roles as a literacy advisor, and worked in adult literacy and preschool settings. …
