Nancy Bartlett Hitch Student Scholarship Award

The Nancy Bartlett Hitch Student Scholarship Award ($300) is presented to deserving students to gain additional opportunities for personal and professional growth. The award honors both those who have made outstanding contributions to the development and extension of ACEI, as well as those who have made contributions to the advancement of children's education.

The 2009 winner is Ekaterina Strekalova. Ekaterina is a full-time student completing her Ph.D. in early education at State University of New York at Buffalo. Ekaterina earned her undergraduate degree in Literature and English as a Second Language at Volgograd State Pedagogical University in Russia. She interned as a middle-school teacher in Russia and was a preschool teacher at Magic World Multicultural Preschool in Moscow.

Ekaterina has been a preschool teacher, a research assistant, and an adjunct professor at State University of New York at Buffalo. Since joining New York ACEI in 2004, Ekaterina has been an active and progressive member. She was elected president in 2008, and her leadership skills and enthusiasm have revitalized the once-struggling chapter. …
