Article excerpt

Tuesday 31 March 2009 marked the passing away of Diane Dunwoody. Diane completed an HND to get into her occupational therapy course following her school education. She graduated in July 2008 with a first-class honours degree in occupational therapy from the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, despite undergoing treatment for her illness. Diane was a determined, hard working girl and continued to be upbeat and motivated even when diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Diane was an enthusiastic team member and was not only a classmate but grew to be a friend. Despite her ongoing illness, Diane continued to be enthusiastic about occupational therapy and was working on a research article. Diane excelled both in her studies in university and also during her placements. She received the Winnie Dunn cup for her contribution to research on her graduation day. Unfortunately, Diane's illness prevented her from applying for her first job.
