Educators Embrace Digital Media: A New Study Reveals That Teachers' Tech Savvy Is on the Rise

* ACCORDING TO the new report "Digitally Inclined," pre-K and K-12 teachers are growing more comfortable with digital media. Grunwald Associates (grunwald.com), an independent research and consulting firm, compiled the report based on research conducted by way of a grant from PBS (pbs.org). Since 2002, PBS and Grunwald Associates have surveyed educators annually about their attitudes toward the use of digital media to inform internal decisions, but this is the first time they have released survey results to the public.

The report's key findings include:

* More than 76 percent of K-12 educators say they use digital media, up significantly from 69 percent in 2008.

* Of K-12 teachers who use digital media in the classroom, 80 percent are frequent or regular users.

* Classroom use of digital media is less common among pre-K educators, with only one-third (33 percent) reporting use. However, pre-K educators who use digital media do so as frequently as K-12 teachers.

* Teachers are increasing their use of games, student-produced presentations, and social media. …
