LIKE SO MANY STRATEGIES in K-12 education, professional development is moving steadfastly into the online environment. Speak Up 2009 asked teachers to identify the advantages of taking coursework online. Atop the list, not surprisingly: convenience.

HIGHLIGHTS

* Three out of four respondents identified "fits my schedule" as a benefit of online PD.

* About 40 percent cited other conveniences (saves time, customizable learning, can review materials as needed).

* Half of respondents would like administrators to use technology to provide online coursework.
