ACEI Making a Difference: Update on the Preschool for Girls in Tanzania

In my first Exchange message as your president (Fall 2009), I shared with you a rare opportunity to pursue the mission outlined in our new organizational tagline of "Every Child, Every Nation" in a tangible way. Specifically, I described how we can help in a small, yet very powerful, way in the building of a preschool for girls in rural Tanzania and in building a strong link between that school and our international organization. With this message, I would like to provide an update regarding our efforts.

As a reminder, the facility being planned is a small part of an entire comprehensive school for girls from preschool through high school in rural Tanzania. This facility will provide an important opportunity for girls to attend school. Girls in rural areas often do not have the opportunity to attend school--many marrying as young as 8. ACEI has always espoused the need to support the rights of all children around the world. Now is our chance to do it!

Interest is this project is beginning to spread. A leader in the area of solar power (Solar Liberty) has agreed to provide a solar panel to provide the energy needed for this preschool. This will make our school one of the first in Africa to use green energy.
