Kurt J. Pritzl, Associate Editor of the Review of Metaphysics from June 2002 until March 2006, died on February 21 after a long bout with cancer. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Philosophy Education Society, the publisher of the Review of Metaphysics.

The second of six children of Raymond and June (McGrath), Prof. Pritzl was born on February 15, 1952, in Milwaukee. In 1974 he was graduated summa cure laude from Marquette University with a B.A. in philosophy and mathematics. He then went on to the University of Toronto, where, as a fellow of Massey College, he earned both the M.A. (1975) and the Ph.D. (1982). The focus of his graduate studies was in ancient Greek philosophy and culminated in a dissertation on "The Identity of Knower and Known in Aristotle's De Anima," under the direction of Joseph Owens.

Kurt Pritzl was first appointed to the faculty of the School of Philosophy at The Catholic University of America in 1980. On receiving tenure in 1986, he requested and was granted a leave of absence in order that he might spend the 1986-1987 academic year in Cincinnati as a novice within the Order of Preachers. He returned to Washington and to academic life in the fall of 1987 and took up residence in the Dominican House of Studies. …
