Entries for the 2011 Julia Ideson Award are sought by the Houston Public Library's Friends of the Texas Room by June 1. The award, which commemorates the library's first director (Julia Bedford Ideson, 1885-1945), recognizes research projects that document Houston and Texas history and culture. Entries must be completed using the resources of the library's Texas Room/Houston Metropolitan Research Center. Books, published articles, graduate theses or dissertations, films, video productions, or websites are eligible. One winner is named each year. The Julia Ideson Award is presented by the Friends at its annual meeting in October. The Southern Association for Women Historians invites proposals for the Ninth Southern Conference on Women's History, to be held June 6-9, 2012, at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. The conference provides a stimulating and congenial forum for discussing all aspects of women's history. Its program seeks to reflect the diversity of our profession and the best in recent scholarship, including by young scholars, graduate students, museum curators, and public historians. We invite sessions on any dimension of southern women's and gender history and particularly welcome panels that test traditional boundaries, for example, geographic, thematic, sexual, and conceptual. …
