Students' Standards in Correcting Faculty Members' Performance in Jordanian Universities from the Perspective of Al-Balqa'Applied University Students Case Study

The study aimed at revealing Students' standards in correcting faculty members' performance in Jordanian Universities from the perspective of Al-Balqa' Applied University students / Case study. The study society was formed All the students of Al-Balqa' Applied University from all specializations and faculties and those who filled the evaluation sheet in the second semester 2007\2008. The study sample was taken randomly from the whole society. It consisted of 385 students from both sexes, a questionnaire has been developed out of (38) paragraphs, and suitable statistical methods were used to analyze information. The study's results showed that the character of the faculty member in high degrees with mean 4.04 as considered by the perspective of Al-Balqa' Applied University students. And it also showed that there are no differences of statistical significance at (0.05>a) in the standards that students depend on when evaluating their professors' performance at Jordanian universities from the perspectives of students caused according to difference of gender, Educational Level variables. On the light of the study outcomes, the researcher have presented several recommendations to Work on the continuity of developing the skills and abilities of educational assembly members at Jordanian universities and the ability to self evaluation.

Importance and background of the study

The Academic education depends mainly on the interaction between students and the educational assembly members. This interaction reflects the ability of the educational assembly member in delivering information to students. In the light of accelerating global knowledge and technological development, an urgent need emerged in evaluating and correcting the faculty members' performance which helped in the constant self development within the frame of their important mission which is differentiation in teaching, scientific research and social service.

Educational assembly members in the university, are the essential part concerned in executing the major tasks completely; where as the university depends on the educational assembly members in performing their sought role. There is no doubt that the quality of academic professor's performance is one of decisive elements that has a strong effect on enhancing quality and outcomes of universities; university professor is the vital element who dominates the class, the person who motivates students and directs their trends. He is also the person whom students consult for delight, enthusiasm, tolerance, intimacy and respect. Thus, students' responses reflect the behavior that is impersonated by the professor, and therefore, these responses differ according to the professors' behavior at university. (Al-Hourani & Tanash, 2007)

Using the corrective methods in different life styles has become vital for many establishments and governmental organizations, due to the great effect of these methods on enhancing the role of these establishments and organizations. Many Universities and higher education institutes in different countries seek the development of their educational assembly members through following them up and correcting their teaching methods. Furthermore, there are common methods concerned in correcting the performance of faculty members; all these methods are used or just part of them in universities. Such methods are: correcting the performance of a faculty member through faculty deans, heads of departments and colleagues, correcting the performance of a faculty member by urging him\her to correct his\her performance by providing him\her with some needed scientific and educational tools, and correcting the performance of a faculty member through evaluating him\her by the students and this method is considered the most reliable and stable method to evaluate professors' technical and professional skills. (Al-Hakmy, 2008)

There are three main standards to estimate the teacher's competency: estimating his\her competency according to teaching outcomes, teacher's behavior and student's behavior. …
