ABABJ: What is your overall vision for the center?

Bob Seiwert: Commercial lending and business banking are core areas of focus for most ABA members. We want the Center for Commercial Lending and Business Banking to become the recognized industry resource for commercial banking information, ideas and products.

ABABJ: How do the center's resources help ABA members better serve commercial markets?

BS: Our current offerings include Commercial Insights, a monthly email bulletin; ABA Commercial Network, a members-only professional networking site; small-business market research white papers; and the ABA Credit Refreshers Library, a series of timeless classics covering the basics of commercial credit underwriting. All of these resources can be accessed via the center's web page on ABA.com.

ABABJ: What topics do you cover in Commercial Insights?

BS: The bulletin is emailed monthly to more than 4,500 bankers. Topics are designed for banks focusing on serving the needs of small businesses (sales up to $10 million) and lower-end, middle-market companies (sales from $10 to $25 million). We have regular monthly columns on market research, strategy development, and execution and risk management. We also cover legislative and regulatory issues that affect commercial operations. The monthly "Commercial Spotlight" column covers a commercially related "hot topic" or "best practice." All ABA bank members can receive this bulletin. They just need to log-in on ABA's website, click "manage email bulletins" and click the subscribe box for Commercial Insights. …
