A Tribute to Mont P. Hoyt

Mont P. Hoyt was one of the few true gentlemen I have known in my life. He was enormously blessed with a wide array of talents and diverse interests, all of which he put to use for the benefit of his fellow man. I was lucky enough to be included among Mont's friends and colleagues and came to know him as an excellent lawyer, arbitrator and advisor, an expert internationalist, and an extremely loyal and reliable friend. Most importantly, Mont was a devoted family man and a profoundly religious man whose enthusiasm, kindness, and caring personality made him a very special and likable person.

Mont always seemed to have a supportive insight or a helpful idea to offer. It was only natural for him, therefore, to play the role of a mentor very early in my career when he encouraged me to earn a Master of Laws degree in order to enhance my chances of becoming an international energy lawyer, which it did.

Mont experienced a considerable number of significant accomplishments in his personal and professional life, including serving as a lay reader at Christ Church Cathedral, becoming a partner at Baker & Botts and chairing the international department at Hughes & Luce. …
