Julie Filucci is an aviation writer and technical editor whose father flew the "Hump" (over the Himalayas). This is a seventy-fifh anniversary commemorative book on the legendary Douglas DC-3 of 1936 and beyond (the C-47 to youngsters in the USAAF/USAF, and the R4D to naval aviators).

The book is a mix of Douglas history and personal reminiscences of those associated with the Gooney Bird/Dakota. The story is mainly an American Airlines one, ending with the fates of some of AA's machines. The book contains many quotations from interviews that started in 2003 with the December issue of A OPA Pilot. An index would have been helpful.

Filucci starts with a brief history of how the DC-1 became the DC-3 and includes original photos from what is now the Boeing-Douglas archives and domestic stories that personalize Donald Douglas and his team. …
