One of the most important Finnish music libraries, the Sibelius Academy Library, has a new home. And, it's right in the middle of the city, in the new Helsinki Music Centre (http:// www.musiikkitalo.fi/web/en/), where, for the first time, the library has all of its services gathered in one place. On the ground floor are the service desk, scores, books, recordings, and listening rooms (more than just basic listening rooms, these contain luxury home theatre systems with first class equipment and leather sofas). There is also a lot of working space for students and some quiet rooms for serious research work. Two special rooms may be reserved for a half year's work for even more serious work. All reference material is here as well.

The first floor contains working rooms and several rooms for different stock. Open access stock (LPs, dissertations, and other older material) helps both staff and users' life. The valuable archival materials, which contain lots of manuscripts of Finnish composers such as Erkki Melartin, Selim Palmgren and many others, now have their own fire-proof room. Now that the main user of library's orchestral materials, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, plays in the same building, it has been possible to put their materials into the library as well. …
