As we point out on the back cover of this issue of the Review, the Thomas Wolfe Society's return to Asheville for our 2012 meeting coincides with the 75th anniversary of Wolfe's own return to his hometown. He came back for a visit in May of 1937 after more than seven years of self-imposed exile following the publication of Look Homeward, Angel. I am reminded that 2012 also marks the 25th anniversary of my first TWS meeting. The gentlemen with me in the photograph below (taken at Chapel Hill, 22 May 1987) are just two of the many fine people I've met in that quarter-century. Sadly, both Richard Walser (left) and Jan Mostowski are no longer with us. Professor Walser died just eighteen months after that meeting, and Mr. Mostowski's recent death (November 2011) is noted in this issue on page 229.

Wolfe writes, at the end of chapter 5 of You Can't Go Home Again, "one day men come home again" (it's best not to think too much about that; just go with it). …
