In an age when information is readily accessible from the Internet via smartphones, tablets, and PCs, one might question the need for a hard copy encyclopedia of any kind. Think again. Some topics, such as leadership, are so varied that locating the information is often time-consuming. And, perhaps, information is not referenced well. In this particular encyclopedia, each well-referenced entry is authored by expert practitioners and educators. Many entries are followed by other terms readers may want to explore in order to enhance their understanding of a particular topic.

Entries are listed alphabetically in the order they appear, with the exception of the section on historical leaders, which is highlighted at the end of the encyclopedia. Entries are also listed thematically. One can browse from one topic to another rather quickly, either by alphabetical order or by theme.

Some themes included are Characteristics of Leaders, Health Care Delivery Standards and Health Policy, and Leadership in Practice, Education, and Research. …
