My students often ask me about good jobs in nursing and career options for new graduates. This book is ideal for answering their many questions. It is an excellent resource for nursing students as well for nurses looking for a change in specialty.

My first reaction as I read this book is how wonderful and versatile a degree in nursing truly is. According to employment projections for 2010-2020 released this past February by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the registered nurse workforce is the top occupation in terms of job growth through 2020.

We are definitely seeing a shift from the acute to the outpatient management of patient care; acuity has increased as hospitalized patients are sicker and discharged quicker. And 12-hour-plus hospital shifts are not appealing to some nursing professionals. …
