The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) recently released its new and entirely online Life Centered Education (LCE) transition curriculum and assessment portal, which is designed to help teachers better prepare students with disabilities for independent and rewarding lives after they finish school. Formerly known as Life Centered Career Education (LCCE), the new Life Centered Education (LCE) is the result of a recently completed 18-month review and revision by a CEC-led task force of leading transition professionals from the field. LCE is designed to allow professionals to implement a comprehensive transition curriculum for children with disabilities and provide in-depth instruction on life skills in three critical domains of adult living: daily living skills, self-determination and interpersonal skills, and employment skills; and design lesson plans that reflect the problem-solving skills students need to live productive and rewarding adult lives. LCE offers tips on how to use technology effectively in instruction, provide alternative instructional strategies to accommodate a student's needs; monitor each student's progress online; deliver focused, explicit instruction across each curricular area; and link each instructional objective with a common core standard for the United States. …
