As anybody who attended the 2000 Historical Society of Alberta AGM and Conference can testify, one of the CAHS's most successful publishing ventures has been Bill Baergen's account of the Ku Klux Klan in Central Alberta.

To capitalize on this success and also realizing that there is perhaps a need for this kind of historical enquiry in the secondary schools, the CAHS has commissioned a "Teacher's Guide" to be written.

The manual will accompany the book and give direction on how the material in the book can be made relevant for secondary students in Alberta. The resource guide is cross curricular in nature and makes connections with both Social Studies and English curriculum needs. Along with the curricular linkages, the guide will also contain learning activities that can be used in the classroom.

Once the Teacher's Guide is produced the CAHS will conduct teacher in-services around Central Alberta. The in-services will train teachers on how the guide and book can be used effectively in the classroom so that the history becomes relevant to today's young people and therefore develop enquiry and historical research skills. …
