983 students with 700 projects took part in the 5 fairs held in Red Deer, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Peace River involving 37 Alberta communities and 63 schools.

In total, over 18,000 Albertans took in the fairs as visitors- a growth of 10% over last year.

There was a large increase of 53% over the year 2000 in the number of students (616) who took and came from local school fairs held earlier in the spring.

2001 saw a huge growth in the school based fairs part of this project ... the number of schools running their own local fairs in the spring first increased from 14 to 31; the number of students from 1,200 to 3,405 and the number of projects from 970 to 2,013. There was an increase of over 50% in the number of student and other visitors to the school based fairs.

The winning students--15 from across Alberta--will be attending the Historica national summer fair July 2001, in Kamloops BC. The Alberta students get a chance to showcase their winning projects, meet other grade 4-9 students from across Canada and take part in a week long summer history camp. …
