Supposition

The meaning of a symbol originates with someone or some group.

For instance, the legend on a diagram/map provides the meaning of the symbols used on the diagram/map. The definition of a symbol is extremely important if communication is to be comprehensible and accurate. As technology and knowledge grow, new paradigms may be created. These new paradigms may require new symbols to describe what is happening in them.

Who Is the Mother?

In the past, that question was simple. A man and woman copulate, and the woman becomes pregnant and has a baby. She is the mother, and the man is the father! With the advent of death and divorce, stepmother and stepfather were created. Words such as birth, natural, and biological have prefixed mother and father to distinguish between the rearing parents and the creating/biological parents.

A New Paradigm for Creating Life

A medical facility procures semen from a man and an egg from a woman. A doctor places the semen and egg in a test tube and initiates a process to create an embryo. The doctor then inserts the embryo into a surrogate woman who eventually gives birth to a baby. The baby is placed in an adoption agency. …
