With this issue I end my tenure as editor of Renascence, assuming the role of Senior Editor as my capable colleague of many years--and frequent reader for Renascence--Dr. John Curran, assumes the editorship. I have edited the journal for seventeen years, since my late colleague and mentor, Dr. Joseph M. Schwartz, stepped down in 1995 to become Senior Editor until his death in 2002. It has been a privilege and an honor to edit Renascence. I have valued the opportunity to read and comment on some of the best literary critical studies in the area of religion, values, and literature. I sought to maintain the journal's reputation as a place where both the established and the aspiring scholar each receives careful and thorough consideration of his or her work. I maintained the tradition of publishing special issues on important literary figures. I am especially proud of two issues on poet Denise Levertov, whom I brought to Marquette's campus for a reading just a year before her death in 1997. For the coming year, my chief task will be to coordinate the fifth Joseph M. Schwartz Memorial lecture, to be given next April by Professor Thomas Wortham, of UCLA.
