Welcome to the special sport tourism issue of the Journal of Tourism Challenges and Trends. The articles featured examine a range of issues from different disciplinary and cultural perspectives, and add to the growing body of knowledge in this field of inquiry.

In the US, Indianapolis is one of the premier sport cities, featuring professional football (American) and basketball clubs, state-of-the-art facilities, and headquarters of several large sport federations/associations. C King et al. consider residents as stakeholders in the sport tourism system, and seek to ascertain their perceptions of sport tourism in the quality of life in Indianapolis.

One needs only to witness the volume of tourists in Portugal's Algarve from November to March to grasp the prominence of golf tourism.
