Professor Alfred F. Alberico was born in Denver, Co. on March 15, 1921. He earned his B.A. in 1947 at the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley. Prior, he had served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, during which time he was deployed to France, Japan and the Philippines. Mr. Alberico also served for NATO in Naples between 1951 and 1953.

Dr. Alberico earned his M.A. in 1953 from Middlebury College, Italian School and in 1958 he obtained his Ph.D. in Italian from Yale University, with a thesis on Ippolito Nievo.

Dr. Alberico spent most of his career as professor at San Francisco State University, from 1959 to 1987, where he taught Italian, French and Comparative Literature. He was Chair of the Foreign Languages Department many times and was instrumental in setting up the entire Italian undergraduate program, as well as developing the Italian M.A. program. His leadership was fundamental in making the Italian Department at SFSU one of the most reputable in all of California. …
