Scarcely a man was to be seen on the streets of Edmonton yesterday. It was a Civic Holiday and almost everybody that possessed or could borrow or rent a gun was out after the ducks on the first day of the open season. Most of the sportsmen left town the afternoon and evening before so as to be on hand at some favorite slough at the first peep of daylight. A number of persons went down the line to Leduc and Wetaskiwin and went east and west from there.

The early morning was ushered in by a regular bombardment of the ducks on the sloughs in the immediate vicinity of the city. This was kept up for about two hours when it is safe to say that there weren't a dozen ducks within several miles of the city. The ducks were fairly plentiful--much more so than many of the bags secured would lead one to believe. A great deal of indiscriminate shooting was indulged in. …
