It is with great pleasure that Resources for Feminist Research/Documentation sur la recherche feministe (RFR/DRF) presents this apecial journal issue on gender and education in Mexico. The idea for this guest edited issue came from a proposal made by Professor Karla K. Krai of the Faculty of Education, University of Colima, Mexico, to RFR/DRF's editors and editorial board to publish a journal issue as a collaborative project between the University of Colima in Mexico and RFR/DRF. From the beginning, the idea of publishing a journal issue that would be internationally guest edited and published in Spanish in Mexico and in English in Canada was of great interest to us. For RFR/DRF it represented, among other things, an excellent opportunity to work closely with researchers and academics from Mexico whose work deals with issues of gender and education in that country, issues that we believe would be of interest not only to scholars and readers in Mexico but also to a much wider audience, including our readers in Canada and other countries.

We believe that this special issue represents a unique opportunity for our readers to be introduced to academic work done outside Canada that addresses gender issues from a variety of perspectives as well as from other realities and contexts. …
