This book describing scientifically based reading instruction has been recently updated to link instruction to the Common Core Learning Standards. The chapter titled "The Big Picture" sets the stage, explaining the state of reading instruction in the United States, the reading brain, and what teachers can do to improve reading scores.

Teaching Reading Sourcebook includes a section on word structure for both English and Spanish. Both are helpful to teachers who want to understand the structure of language in order to provide more explicit instruction. The book is then organized following the five components of reading as identified by the National Reading Panel (2000).
