Photography has always had its share of charlatans and tricksters. The "realisni" and "truth" of photography has always been too tempting a lure to keep them away. For several decades, Joan Fontcuberta has been one our most loveable tricksters. Teasing us with photography's deceptive capabilities, he has produced a remarkably playful, funny, and poignant body of work. As the 2013. recipient of the Hasselblad Award, Fontcuberta has produced a new monograph with MACK that gathers a collection of different projects produced over the years. Not the typical retrospective monograph, the book remains true to Fontcuberta's inventive and idiosyncratic work.

Usually presented as faux-scientific documents or journals. Fontruberta's work teases us while at the same time revealing its low-tech charm. Rilling on natural history, space exploration. and zoology, the work is always presented with a knowing wink.
