"Food or Fuel?" is a program in the DVD series Future Food, which explores issues involved in feeding the ever-increasing world population of the 21st century. This program focuses on Kenya, where small farmers raise food for their families but are also urged to plant crops used for fuel. The story is seen through the eyes of farmer Moses Shaha.

Africa is short of food while the world is running short of fuel because of the reliance on a finite supply of fossil fuels. Biofuels, which some believe could replace fossil fuels, can be produced from such crops as corn and sugar cane, and a number of companies are interested in raising biofuel crops. Jatropha, referred to as a "magic" crop, produces seeds whose oil could be used as a biofuel. It can be grown without threatening food security and could bring income to farmers. The video follows a skeptical Moses Shaha as he travels around the continent meeting with a variety of people, some who wish to grow food and others who want to use land for fuel crops. Observing the jatropha crops and seeing how the oil is extracted from the seeds, he learns that biofuel farming has actually brought about innovation in food farming as well as generated environmental benefits and soil improvement. …
