Bologna, Artelibro a Book Fair on Music and Exhibitions in Libraries

From 19 to 22 September 2013, the annual book fair festival Artelibro celebrated in Bologna its tenth anniversary. Due to the double Verdi/Wagner anniversary, this edition was entitled Musica per gli occhi: collezionismo all'opera [Music for the Eyes: Collections and Opera] and devoted to music. Artelibro is a commercial event, which moves the whole cultural establishment in Bologna. This year was no exception, as the fair hosted not only the usual exhibition market ["mostra-mercato"] but also hundred events as smaller exhibitions, meetings, lectures, books presentations, guided tours, concerts, performances, and work-shops hosted by a number of institutions and focused on music from medieval liturgical books to music magazines of the Sixties with the Beatles. Exhibits were housed also by libraries and museums, as those organized by the Biblioteca Universitaria, (music manuscripts related to Verdi), the Biblioteca dell'Archiginnasio (Tallone Editore, music printer and publisher of church books), the Conservatorio di musica (sacred music in Bologna), the Museo della Storia di Bologna (old music prints and Verdi treasures from the L. F. Tagliavini's collection), the Mediaeval Museum (liturgical books with music) and the Archeological Museum (ancient coins, medals and other artefacts with musical subjects). …
