This collection of nineteen essays by Elisabeth Schussler Fiorenza is the second volume in a three-volume trilogy The first volume, Transforming Vision: Explorations in Feminist Theology, outlines the contours of her theological vision and method. With some overlaps, the present volume, Changing Horizons: Explorations in Feminist Interpretation, focuses primarily on Fiorenza's hermeneutical strategies and practices.

The first part of the book, comprising nine essays published between 1976 and 2008 and ordered chronologically, traces the evolution of critical feminist emancipatory hermeneutic which Fiorenza champions. In this section, Fiorenza (i) identifies the problems with traditional interpretations which safeguarded and perpetuated patriarchy; (ii) redefines the function of biblical interpretation as that which ushers change and transformation, and (iii) reclaims the empowering and nourishing potential of Scripture.

With interpretation of select scriptural passages, the second part of the book displays the art and practice of a critical feminist hermeneutic. …
