NYFS Presents Two Separate Traveling Exhibitions

The New York Folklore Society is sponsoring two distinct traveling exhibitions, which are available for viewing around the state. "Farm and Field: The Rural Folk Arts of the Catskill Region," a photo exhibition on Catskills Farming, featuring the photographs of Benjamin Halpern, is currently on view at the State University of New York at Delhi and will be on view at "A Taste of the Catskills" Festival at Maple Shade Farm in Delhi, NY over Columbus Day Weekend, 2014. One of the New York Folklore Society's latest collaborative initiatives that showcase the rural folk arts of the Catskills region of New York State, especially those folk arts which relate to the community of farmers and agricultural workers in this region, this exhibit hopes to shine a light on this identity by documenting and highlighting these ongoing activities. The photographer, Benjamin Halpern, a native of Sullivan County, remembers the dairy farms that once surrounded his hometown. Through his photographs, he seeks to define the connection between the modern landscape and its people, and the cultural connection between the modern farmers and their agrarian roots. …
