This interactive iPad app lets students explore the circulatory and respiratory systems with what amounts to a digital version of the old transparent overlays found in some textbooks.

Heart and Lungs Lab shows you how the circulatory and respiratory systems work in real time. The app opens with an illustration of a human body. Move the slider at the bottom to the right to see the respiratory system and to the left to see the circulatory system. Place the slider in the middle to see both systems together. This aspect of the app amazed my granddaughter. She initially said, "So, this is like a book. I have seen this before." Then, when she placed the slider in the center, she said, "Wow, I thought each of the systems just did its own things, but now I see that they are connected." She got it!

Within the illustration of a human body there is a blue box, red box, and purple box. When you click on the blue box, you see an illustration of the structures with labels. Click on the labels and you get clear and concise information about each. Click on the red box and you see a green tab on the left. Choose that green tab and you can choose from six labs. …
