The Mathomat was the first plastic drawing template that I used in a mathematics classroom many years ago. Since then a variety of different types have appeared on the market, and the Mathomat itself is still available and just as useful as ever.

Susie Groves and Peter Grover have produced a series of lesson plans for students in Years 4 to 9, and beyond, using the Mathomat as an aide to drawing suitable figures for exploration and fun activities. While most of the ideas and lessons are not new to me, many will be new applications for less experienced teachers.

It is interesting to see them produced together in a single publication so that, with the assistance of the Mathomat template, students can explore a wide variety of tasks and concepts, and teachers will have a readily implemented lesson at their fingertips when introducing a new idea or activity. …
