Paul Kwilecki (1928-2009) photographed the people and places of Decatur County, his home for over forty years, creating an archive of hundreds of black-and-white prints of rural southwest Georgia. One Place: Paul Kwilecki and Four Decades of Photographs from Decatur County, Georgia is the most comprehensive publication of the photographer's prints and writings to date and serves as a summation of the Paul Kwilecki Photographs and Papers Collection held in the Archive of Documentary Arts at the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Duke University. Photographer and former Center for Documentary Studies director Tom Rankin worked closely with Kwilecki to select two hundred photographs for the publication, which are arranged in a loose chronology from a 1965 photograph of a mantel to a 1999 study of an Oak City Cemetery statue. …
