In 2008, the Film Library, which was previously part of the Norwegian Film Institute, became part of the National Library of Norway. Both the Music Collection and the Film Library were divided into two different departments: Research Department and Reference Services. In April 2010, the National Library opened a new department ('Mediatheque, Film, Music and Broadcasting') encompassing the National Music Collection, Sound Archive, Film Library, and providing access to broadcast media. The new department included a Reading Room and reference library for film and music, and special rooms for listening to music and watching films and for accessing radio programs online and television programs on demand. The Mediatheque was open to everybody.

Evaluation

The merger of film and music was not a success, because they had very little in common. In 2013, after three years, an evaluation took place. Film and music were divided into two sections. …
