Around the STAs: Focus on Northern Territory

2015 commenced with a major membership drive attempting to recruit new members at this year's Darwin teacher induction. Also, in January the Northern Territory was able to send two worthy recipients to the 2015 Summer School: Peter Ramsey from Casuarina Secondary College and Kimberly Louwrens from Katherine High. Both teachers gained a lot of insights and ideas to enhance their teaching. STANT would like to thank ASTA for this wonderful experience and opportunity for its members.

The Territorian Young Scientist competition was launched on Wednesday 22 April. The contest provides an opportunity for all school students to demonstrate their creativity and understanding of scientific concepts. The competition closes on Friday 25 September, with an awards ceremony in early November. This year the launch also showcased other competitions and science experiences that teachers and students can access in the Territory. Representatives for the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Engineers Australia, Conoco Philips Science Experience and CSIRO Scientists in Schools program all delivered presentations. …
