Thomas Wolfe Society Meeting (May 23-25, 2014; Chapel Hill, North Carolina): The Society held its thirty-sixth annual meeting at the Carolina Inn, University of North Carolina. On Friday afternoon, Society President George Hovis opened the meeting, Anne Zahlan read a passage from Of Time and the River for the prologue, and Edwin Yoder presented a special introduction titled "A Wannabe Writer in the Footsteps of Wolfe." The first session, moderated by Joe Flora, featured papers by Igina Tattoni ("Ocean Crossing with Thomas Wolfe: The True Life of Imagination"), Nami Montgomery ("Wolfe's Life Selected: A Case Study of Kenneth Raisbeck and Marjorie Fairbanks"), and Amelie Moisy ("Aspects of Wolfe's Time in the Paris House of Illusion Described in The Web and the Rock"). Session 2 was moderated by Steven B. Rogers and offered "Thomas Wolfe's Cinematic Storytelling" by Sara Flores, "Look Homeward, Always" by Michael Curtis Houck, and "Twisted from the Ordinary: American Literary Naturalism and Look Homeward, Angel," by Jon F. Dawson.

In Session 3 (Saturday morning, 24 May), moderator Mark Canada introduced the papers of Jedidiah Evans, "Look Abroad, Angel: Wolfe in the (Really) Deep South"; Laura Hope-Gill, "The Romanesque Burg: Thomas Wolfe's Asheville"; and Kerrie Harney, "Decoding Wolfe's Universe: A Modern Understanding of Space, Time, and Dimension in Look Homeward, Angel" Papers in Session 4, which was moderated by Paula G. Eckard, were "Thomas Wolfe's Expressionism and The Party at Jack's" by David Radavich, and "Out-Gatsbying Fitzgerald: Thomas Wolfe and The Party at Jack's," by Joseph Bentz. …
