Re-Connect with Manitoba's Rural Heritage: Open Farm Day

For all us aficionados of Doors Open around the province, here is another opportunity for an interesting experience. This fall, you can take part in Open Farm Day throughout Manitoba on 20 September. This is the sixth year that this event has taken place, with 47 farms participating last year, attracting 8,000 visitors. "Open Farm Day is our opportunity to showcase Manitoba's agricultural industry and to give a glimpse into how today's farms are managed," said Minister Ron Kostyshyn. "It's also a chance for farmers and others with farm-based businesses to reach new customers, creating opportunities for economic growth and diversification."

It is also a chance for farmers to share information about the diversity and importance of Manitoba farm production, and a showcase for local food producers. Farm sites with livestock, grain and fruit or vegetables are facilitated, while agri-tourism is on the menu as well (think a dude ranch experience with the kids, or discovering a charming B&B set in rolling hills). …
