We are pleased to present the first issue of Volume 82 to the EC readership. We hope readers will find much useful information in the articles of this issue.

We begin this issue with two articles in our ongoing Special Features series addressing topical issues of importance to the field of special education. In the first article, Vaughn and Swanson discuss issues in special education research. They discuss the value of this research over the years, and how it has helped the overall field of education as well as special education.

Next, Leko, Brownell, Sindelar, and Kiely discuss the future of special education teacher education. They evaluate current trends in the field, and propose an evidence-based model of teacher education for the future. We feel that these Special Features add significant information in keeping with previous Special Features published on such topics as RTI, diversity, and technology.

Pain is a significant issue for many students with disabilities and their families. In this issue, Quinn reviews literature on the complicated issue of pain assessment in students with disabities, and provides implications for practice in school and other settings.

There is presently more interest than ever in evidence-based practice, and teachers are necessarily interested in obtaining information on these best practices. Test, Kemp-Inman, Diegelmann, Hitt, and Bethune examined a number of online sources for evidence-based practice, and report some surprising variability among these sources. Their findings should provide some helpful information for teachers.

In a study conducted in Spain, Miranda, Tarraga, Fernandez, Colomer, Pastor examined stress levels of parents of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and ASD and ADHD, as well as parents of typically developing students. …
