Dr. Wormsley described her tenure as editor in chief of JVIB as a "great ride." When George Abbott first approached me about taking on the role of editor in chief of JVIB, thinking about the journey ahead was hardly my first reaction. Instead, I experienced a range of overlapping feelings, including shock, pride, humility, and fear. Of these, the primary emotion that remains after our six-month transition period is humility. I have watched the excellent work that other editors in chief have done to improve this journal and have been amazed with their achievements. Jane Erin, Alan Koenig, Duane Geruschat, Diane Wormsley: these individuals--all accomplished researchers themselves--have demonstrated a commitment to making JVIB the record of research and practice related to the work of professionals who provide services to people who are blind or have low vision. Being entrusted with continuing this progress is just a bit overwhelming to someone who thinks of herself as not having nearly the skills or knowledge as those who have come before me.

The sense of fear I originally felt has dissipated somewhat as I have seen the excellent systems that have been established to get this work accomplished. …
