Eighteen townships, in which there are over 2,500 homesteaders, all situated within 100 miles of Edmonton, and some of them not over 60 miles from the city, were thrown open for settlement at the land office this week. The land in question is situated in three different localities. Eleven townships are situated to the northeast of the city and lie between the Saddle Lake and Whitefish Lake, north of the Saskatchewan River, and 100 miles from the city of Edmonton. The land in these 14 townships is A No. 1, which is evidenced by the fact that there were already many settlers on the land before the surveys were completed.

Another parcel of three townships, on which the surveys have just been completed, were thrown open in the Lobstick Lake region, directly west of the city and 60 miles from Edmonton as the crow flies. This country is getting a lot of settlers this spring and there are two or three parties of surveyors out there now, who are trying to get the lines in before the settlers have the country all taken up. …
