Introducing Jess Sharp, Executive Director of ABA's Card Policy Council

As SVP and executive director for ABA's Card Policy Council, Jess Sharp will lead a cohort of top card-issuing banks and networks as they navigate the challenges facing the card industry today. Joining ABA in November after four years as managing director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Center's for Capital Markets Competitiveness, Sharp says he's ready to lend his voice to advance ABA's mission.

"What draws me to ABA is that it's an organization with an incredible history and a very important seat at the table," he says. "You always want to be a part of the most important conversations in town, and ABA certainly offers that opportunity."

Sharp is no stranger to the important conversations. During his time at the Chamber, he advocated in support of fair, efficient and innovative capital markets, pushing back against excessive regulation. He also served in the George W. Bush administration as a member of the Domestic Policy Council, advising the president on a number of issues including housing and financial services.

As he now shifts his focus to the payments industry, Sharp believes the conversation in the coming days will be shaped by many issues that directly impact consumers, including the danger posed by cyber crime. "Vulnerability of data is a threat that's constantly evolving," he says. …
