Phasmid: Saving the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect is a beautifully illustrated and well-written picture book. It describes the life cycle of the Lord Howe Island Phasmid (or Stick Insect). It then goes on to explain the story of their discovery on Balls Pyramid, a rocky outcrop east of Lord Howe Island, by an intrepid team of scientists--and the subsequent fight to save the phasmid from the brink of extinction.

The book has several discrete sections. The first is essentially the story of the Lord Howe Island Phasmid. After an introduction to Lord Howe Island and being provided with some background, the story goes on to describe the life cycle and characteristics of the Lord Howe Island Phasmid. The text is clear, easy to read, and is supported by beautiful, botanically accurate watercolour illustrations.
