ABA Encourages Bankers to 'Take Lawmakers to Work'

Article excerpt

As the country gears up for the national election this fall, ABA is encouraging bankers to help keep the industry's legislative priorities top-of-mind in Washington by inviting their representatives for a visit to their bank this August.

ABA's "Take Your Lawmaker to Work" program gives policymakers and opportunity to see, in person, bank operations, the customers they serve and the value banks bring to their communities. Hosting a lawmaker allows bankers to offer valuable insight and expertise that show just how important banks are to their hometowns. This glimpse into a typical "day in the life" of a banker--and a chance to meet a bank's customers--shows lawmakers firsthand how many of the issues on their agenda in Washington affect the work bankers do on a daily basis.

Banker advocacy is particularly important this year, with all 435 House seats and 34 Senate seats up for election in the fall. As lawmakers head back to their home states for the August recess, bankers have the perfect opportunity to reach out and connect with their local legislators.
