Rob Haskins is associate professor of music at the University of New Hampshire, and has been writing recording reviews for the American Record Guide (ARG) since 1993. ARG is a consumer magazine that presents over five hundred classical music reviews per issue. This volume cumulates Haskins' reviews that appeared in ARG during the period 1993-2013. Haskins is a harpsichordist, musicologist, and Cage scholar; thus, the book is arranged in five sections, reflective of Haskins' musical interests: Johann Sebastian Bach, Early Music from Bull to Liszt, John Cage, Minimalists, and Other New Music.

Haskins is an engaging writer. The reviews are reflective of his personal musical experience and interests as they trace the reception of classical music recordings over the past two decades. Many of his reviews have the feel of a diary revealing Haskins' approach to historical performance practice and the aesthetics of contemporary music while providing a critique of the merits of each performance. …
