Notes staff news. Working with the people who are part of the Notes staff is a true pleasure. Even though most of our interaction takes place via email, over time we grow to know one another. So it is with a mixture of regret and happy anticipation, we see Liza Vick, our book review editor, begin to handover her responsibilities to Patricia Stroh. I would like to thank Liza for her thoughtful and caring dedication to this important position, and certainly Patricia who is taking on the new responsibility.

Another transition in our Notes staff will also take place, but this one hits much closer to home! David (Jack) Knapp begins to transfer his responsibilities as compiler of the "New Music Received" (NMR) column to our Oberlin colleague, Kathleen Abromeit. After forty-two years of service at the Oberlin Conservatory Library, Jack retired at the end of 2016. Literally half of his library career was spent as a Notes staff member: initially as an assistant editor (1992-98) and then as NMR compiler (2001-17). Jack's tenure rivals only Ruth Watanabe, his column predecessor, in longevity as a Notes staffer. Congratulations, Jack, on this amazing achievement and best wishes as you start your next chapter. …
