The term "painless chemistry" seems an oxymoron for those who fear the subject. But this comprehensive little book simplifies even the most difficult chemistry principles.

The book covers matter, the periodic table, gas laws, mixtures, elements and compounds, chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, nuclear reactions, and environmental chemistry. The greenhouse effect was missing from the environmental chemistry chapter. Otherwise, the book does a thorough job of covering the basics at the right amount of depth.

The author moves the reader easily through the material, providing hints, rules, charts, tables, a wrapping-up section, and common mistakes, including how to correct misconceptions. Brain teasers, and the answers to them, are found throughout the book, focusing on the main topic of the section.
