This book's 80 pages are packed with information about painful conditions that can affect humans, both inside and out. It is worded so that school-age children can read and understand many of the possible ailments that could plague them and keep them out of school.

After a brief introduction explaining the purpose of the book and a disclaimer stating that the book is not meant to take the place of a doctor's diagnosis, the book describes basic body structure through many illustrations and explains the mechanism that causes pain. An Ouch! PainScale is introduced in this section. The book also contains information about the immune system in a section called "The Warriors" and about various body invaders in a section called "The Bad Guys." The rest of the book focuses on injuries, infections, and other things that can go wrong in the human body, from splinters, blisters, and bruises to burns, cuts, rashes, and allergic reactions to poison ivy. …
