Message from the Indian Psychiatric Society Task Force on Clinical Practice Guidelines

The Indian Psychiatric Society, for the first time published the Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) for management of various psychiatric disorders among the elderly in 2007. The basic aim of these guidelines was to provide a framework for good quality care to elderly patients, keeping in view the existing resources.

In, 2015, Indian Psychiatric Society decided to revise the existing guidelines issued about a decade back. For the revision process, workshops were held on 24th and 25th Oct 2015 and on 6th and 7th Aug 2016. These workshops led to revision of CPGs for management of Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Depressive disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder & Panic Disorder, Sexual Dysfunctions and Sleep Disorders. These guidelines were released at the last Annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society held at Raipur.

Continuing with the revision process, in the year 2017, it was decided to revise the CPGs for management of various psychiatric disorders among elderly. …
